The Studio:
Precision Cuts have moved studios. The old studio in elephant
and castle became too expensive so in January 2005 Tam began a
studio share with top breaks producer Christian J. Chris J is
also mixdown engineer for Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Soul of Man,
Lee Coombs and plenty more. Tam has been steadily honing his skills
for a long time now and the new studio (and a little help from
chris) has allowed him to sharpen them to deadly effect. The current
PC sound is heavier than ever, much to the annoyance of the studio
neighbours Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes and Metric.
The Technical stuff:
The studio is based around a G5 Mac running logic 7. Two UAD
cards give the whole system some serious beef. This is all running
through an Allen and Heath GS3000. Currently there 16 outputs
but this will be expanded to 24 shortly. The main outputs of the
mixer run into an Apogee mini - me, so the final mixdowns sound
SWEET. Speakers are Dynaudios, NS10s and also Mackie HR824s. There
are a couple of synths in use , the NORD rack, a Jen monosynth
and also the old favourite Poly 800. There is also a vocal/recording
booth for vocals, percussion and drums. In the picture above we
see badboy drummer Dave De Rose laying down some heavy funk beats
for yet another PC production. There is a Fender twin tube amp
that often gets used to distort acid bass. The main acid bass
on "Smartbreaks In The Place" was recorded in exactly
that way.
Tam Precision is available for mixdown work. For a good example
of the sound check out the Zero and Mr B remix of "Takin
Over" on streetwise records. This was mixed down at chris
j's studio and is definitely sounding rather obese.... contact
